Currently, Sonora is actively developing three key industries: aerospace technology, semiconductors, and the electric vehicle industry. The development of the electric vehicle industry, from mining to battery manufacturing to vehicle production, is a top priority. The state has the largest lithium reserves in Mexico, a crucial raw material for this industry.

Sonora’s sustainable energy plan aims to transition to a new sustainable development ecosystem, including the generation of clean energy and the development of advanced infrastructure.

Currently, a 1GW solar power plant is being built in Peñasco, Sonora, which will become the largest solar power plant in Latin America upon completion. Additionally, more plants will be constructed, reaching a total capacity of 5GW. These solar power plants will be strategically located to supply clean energy to the global electric vehicle ecosystem.

The development of science parks will provide advanced infrastructure to meet the needs of various industries, ensuring sustainable resource management, including clean energy, water resources, and waste management, while prioritizing environmental protection.

Currently, over 250 multinational companies trust and have established their businesses in Sonora, including sectors such as automotive and electric vehicles, electronics, mining, agriculture, aerospace, medical devices, and renewable energy. Foreign direct investment sources include Europe, the Americas, and Asian countries like China and Japan, totaling over $897 million.
